Full of fibre
Vegetables are insanely good for us and part of the reason for this is their fibre content. Not only does fibre aid digestion and help us ‘stay regular’, it also keeps us feeling fuller for longer Official guidelines from the British Nutrition foundation recommend we consume around 30g per day (BNF 2019). Whilst few us manage to hit this target, adding more veggies into our day is an easy solution. For example, broccoli contains 2.5g of fibre per 100g; pretty good, huh? However, artichokes contain a whopping 9g per 100g (DH 1991)!
Packed with plant protein
Aside from its impressive fibre content, artichokes are also high in protein, which is essential for muscle maintenance. Plant-based sources of protein are kinder to the environment as well as our budgets, so no wonder many of us are looking to shift towards a more vegan lifestyle. Include artichoke as part of your plant-based repertoire; a 100g serving contains 6% of an adult’s recommended intake of protein (DH 1991).
Antioxidants are important for reducing cell damage caused by free radicals and foods like berries and artichokes are antioxidant powerhouses. Tuck into some artichokes after a heavy night on the town, or why not try our new Replenish Me Artichoke Shots? These travel-sized gems also contain curcumin (the main active compound in turmeric) for an additional antioxidant hit.
Good for the gut
The topic of gut health has received huge attention over the last few years. This is because our “good” gut bacteria, probiotics, carry out a range of important functions including helping improve immune function and preventing infection. Thus, having a thriving colony of probiotics living in the gut is important. Prebiotics, such as inulin, act as food for these healthy helpers and, guess what; artichokes are a fantastic source! The bottom line: feeding yourself with artichokes will in turn feed your body’s good bacteria.
We absolutely love artichokes so had to include them in our new Replenish Me Artichoke Shots. This delicious daily shot delivers a convenient hit of goodness tailored to your lifestyle needs; after workouts, a late night, or stressful work meeting. Get your paws on them today by shopping.
