If you’re one of those people who put off starting a fitness regime because you find the gym ‘boring’, then we want to apologise. Because we’re about to massively change your mind-set! From bouncing to barre work, workouts for women just got fun. Find your fit, right here…
If trad gym workouts don’t do it for you, then a trampoline class will put the bounce back in your step. This inspiring fitness exercise is bang on for those who want the benefits of a high-intensity run, but just can’t face hopping on the treadmill or pounding the streets. A cardio workout that burns calories with the best of them, it’s easier on the joints than running and has a reduced risk of injury and strain through impact. And as trampolines blanket these spaces wall to wall, a tumble here and there won’t matter either. So, get star jumping now!
TRX – ATTENTION!
Developed by former U.S Navy SEAL Randy Hetrick, the TRX System (also known as Total Resistance exercises) is a form of suspension training that uses bodyweight exercises to develop strength, balance, flexibility and core stability all at the same time! Using the specialised TRX Suspension Trainer, it leverages gravity and the user’s body weight for each exercise. Lovers of TRX claim it improves mobility and stability, increases metabolic results, builds lean muscle and develops strength. Popular with Yoga and Pilates fans for the core strength it provides, all kinds of endurance training from running to cycling can benefit from the strength they gain. NB: this is not for fitness newbies as it does require a strong and established core.
Not got a lot of spare time? No probs. Here’s some workout inspiration that’s all about speed (and intensity too). High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT to its friends) is quick, efficient, intense and can be done and dusted within 30 mins. Yep, 30 mins! We should add versatility to the list too as you can do whatever exercises you like, just as long as they’re intense. A session involves two intense, short bursts of exercise, followed by an interval. And it’s in this break where it’s most beneficial because slowing down and resting for a few minutes allows the body to recover, so you can carry on with the same level of intensity as before. You’ll notice that your recovery ability increases as time goes on, meaning you’ll need less time to recover. Just what every body deserves, yours included.
STEP UP TO THE BARRE
Here’s a chance to embrace your inner ballerina, whether you've got the ability of Darcy B or are as graceful as a baby elephant – the barre really doesn’t care. Using the poses and postures of ballet dancers, barre work is a real hardcore Nutcracker of a workout (see what we did there). The movements used are small and delicate - tensing the muscles without changing length. ‘Isometric contraction’ is the posh term for it which basically helps maintain strength, tones up and throws some cardio in there too. And get this; in terms of workout clothes for women, all you need is the right footwear to unleash the beautiful swan inside!
THE PSYCHE OF PSYCLE
When Psycle London opened its doors in 2014, it was nothing short of a fitness revolution. Part spin, part body conditioning, part meditation, it’s a high-intensity workout intimately shared with your teacher, the class and a few awesome tunes too. It’s meaningful and social fitness at its best! And the beauty is that everyone’s motivation is different; whether you’re there to burn calories or have a time-out to escape. This isn’t about weight, this about having a rewarding, collective experience that leaves you energised both mentally and physically.
