Whatever you may think about meditation, think again. But what you absolutely do not need to be is some kind of guru to do it, nor will it take hours on end! Just taking those five minutes to calm your mind, focus and regroup can have a huge impact on maintaining your physical and emotional wellbeing. And in today’s world, that’s no bad thing is it? When you meditate, you’re increasing your positive wellbeing, helping to improve your mood and decreasing the impact of stress. The benefits of meditation are clearly plenty! Here’s how to get zen in less than ten with our quick meditation for beginners’ guide:
Use an app or join a group
Mindfulness expert, Cheryl Goodman, says, “Meditation is a very personal thing, it’s about finding your own rhythm and process that works for you. If just starting out or prefer a little help, there are plenty of apps out there that can guide you through. Or you can look up mediation groups in your area.” Cheryl goes on to say; “It’s a great way to increase your social connectedness, meet like-minded people and reduce any feelings of loneliness and isolation.”
Any time is the right time.
It can be hard to find time to mediate, but that’s OK. Some days you may only have five minutes, other days longer. The point is, there’s no right or wrong. Do it as often or as little as you like and be flexible about it. You’ll be more likely to stick with it if you go easy and don’t put pressure on yourself. And if you slip up one week, you can start again afresh the next.
Practice makes perfect.
Like riding a bike or learning a language, meditation gets easier the more you do it. And the more you do it, the easier it gets. The thing to remember here is that your meditation journey is unique to you, however, you incorporate it into your life. But never forget that it will always help to relax you, de-stress you and aid your mindfulness health. 5 minutes well-spent, wouldn’t you say?
